Battle Blog

"Battle Blog" is a classic ASP blogging engine written and used by yours truly. Originally written and posted in 2003, it was available for download until about 2013.

I ceased public distribution after Wordpress and several other blogging platforms came to dominate and it was clear there was too narrow a market for specialty blogging engines to maintain an enterprise support channel. That was particularly important because security teams around the world were discovering holes which users could not bear my casual address of.

What Makes it Different

Battle Blog's chief attribute over other blogging engines is that it includes built in democratic content controls. Visitors can vote content up and down which is functionality that survived its first iteration as a sort of "comment gamifcation" system where people were supposed to be able to "battle blast" posts and comments by pushing their score below a certain threshold.

While Battle Blog itself never lived up to wide use or circulation as a blogging engine, I am always proud to brag that these democratic content controls predated services like Diggit and Reddit, if only by mere months. The success of those services proved how spot-on I was that people might enjoy or even get addicted by participating in such activity.

Today I use Battle Blog primarily for my own web publishing projects (you are currently reading this on a Battle Blog system) as well as offer iterations of it as a managed service under the auspice of my business Dave the Web Guy Innovations.

If for some weird reason you need it, I set up this official support group.
