The news industry, newspapers in particular, will hone a new role in their newsgathering process: "Feed reporters". Roaming content gatherers dispatched across cities that are neither fully qualified journalists yet are structured and managed direct hires who will drive media to the public immediately.

"Content feeders" sounds a lot like the stringers or freelancers used today, but they won't be on official dispatch. Instead they'll be assigned beats or held on a type of "reserve", on the clock, and trained in the protocols of the news agency employer. They won't be highly paid positions either, these may well be minimum wage by the time all is said and done.

The goal of the feed reporter will be to grab and distribute media first, and facts second. "Unknown crisis" (but here's the picture) or "unknown activity" (but here's the video) will be common taglines which feeders will then be duly expected to fortify with more detail after they have met their obligation to beat competitors in broadcasting the abnormality first.

Feeders will bypass the usual gatekeeping of news, partially by leveraging ambiguity in their own interpretation of what they are capturing and distributing. The old media had a way of handling a news story about the local police chief who crashed his car while drunk - the story might be managed well before it hit print or the 6 o'clock news. The method of handle in the future by contrast will occur only after the media has been seen by thousands if not millions.
