LCTA and COLT announced the introduction of an inter-county 31 day bus past this afternoon. Passengers can purchase the monthly pass for $60 and breeze seamlessly on buses between the two networks.

Okay, it's a bus pass. And certainly it's an achievement in coordination and cooperation between the two dominant transit agencies. But it's also a symbolic precursor to the sort of "melding" we need to see between Luzerne and Lackawanna counties important to any light rail project connecting them. More importantly it's the first functional grease applied in order to merge the two agencies outright which might in turn ease the launch of any such project.

The embed above is from the LCTA Facebook page. It's difficult to read in its native photo form but one assumes there will be a readable announcement at the LCTA websitesoon.

Now Let's Talk Feasibility Study

In the entry preceding this one I pointed out that the Scranton Intermodal Center was poised to open. Since then it has; the new facility is modern, clean and spacious, and currently hosts both COLT and, by now, intercity bus lines such as Martz and Greyhound, not to mention taxicabs and such.

Now, harking back to a WNEP story from last April, it's time to get the ball rolling on the feasibility study suggested by then Lackawanna County Councilman Jim Wansacz to determine the nuts and bolts required to join Wilkes-Barre and Scranton by some form of rail, commuter, light or perhaps modern streetcar system. The intermodal center was built with room to expand in order to accomodate rail platforms.
